An Old Part of Me Made it Through

An Old Part of Me Made It Through is a trans media project by Kristel Rico and Karen Alvarado that captures the resilience of humankind during one of history’s most challenging moments of hardship, the Covid-19 pandemic (2020+). Resilience took the form of adjustment and survival. Our viability is in part due to our adaptability. We have learned to thrive in the face of constant change- and we too have changed, bringing the stronger parts of ourselves to the forefront.

ADVANCING OUR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Advancing Our Healthy Lifestyle is a trio of 18” x 24” printed infographic posters that capture the initial moment of lock-down related adjustment. These visualizations demonstrate the data associated with health-related routines such as hand washing, demand for supplements and the rise in home exercise. The three posters collaboratively speak to the peak of lifestyle adjustment.

RE-INVENTING OURSELVES

Re-Inventing Ourselves is a short documentary that captures resilience-related reinvention. The motion piece shares the stories of three individuals who experienced a difficult chapter in their lives during the pandemic. Each one found a way to pivot, and re-invent, creating a business that brought them a new source of income and ultimately success.

MAPPING CHANGE

Mapping Change is a participatory installation that asks viewers to map a change that they have experienced over the last couple of years (2020+). Changes chart growth, realization, transition, success and challenge. Alongside an anecdote is shared about the moment. This exercise will visualize our collective change while navigating three years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

SHARING CHANGE

Sharing Change is an Instagram campaign encouraging an open and safe space for sharing stories highlighting pandemic-related change. Content includes questionnaires, prompts, affirmations, and more.
